Histochemical Studies on Helminthes

Abstract
A histochemical study was done on the histochemical properties of the mucosubstances in the organs of helminthes (Paramphistoma sp., Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis).
The mucosubstances were stained with alcian blue (pH 1. 0, 2. 0), PAS, alcian blue (pH 1. 0)-PAS, alcian blue(pH 2. 5)-PAS, aldehyde fuchsin (pH 1.7) and aldehyde fuchsin (pH 1. 7)-alcian blue (pH 2.5).
The results obtained were as follow.
1. The mucosubstances in the organs of the Ascaris 1. but for cuticle of Ascaris I., and the organs of Paramphistoma sp. composed of acid and neutral mucosubstances, generally speaking, contained greatly much more neutral mucosubstances than acid mucosubstances, while those in cuticle of Ascaris 1. and the organs of Enterobius v. contained only neutral mucosubstances.
2. The acid mucosubstances in muscle layer and intestine of Ascaris I., and cuticle, uterus and egg of Paramphistoma sp. contained only nonsulfated mucin, while ovary, egg and uterus of Ascaris I., and intestine, ovary, sucker and testis of Paramphistoma sp. contained sulfated mucin in generally.
3. Degree of contained mucosubstance is high in the following order, Paramphistoma sp., Ascaris 1. and Enterobius v., respectively.
